    Unhappy xp vista printer sharing

i have a XP desktop with printer and Vista Laptop. I can not get my desktop to allow printer sharing . When I try I get the message

-- "Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed."--

I have an HP office jet series J4580 that WAS working at one time with this setup and then stopped. I had reestablished the printer on the Laptop but still can not get printer sharing to work on XP. I also have canon pixma 1500 that cant be seen either.

I just removed all printer files from laptop ..now what??

Check your "Server" service. Make sure it is started.
Right click on My Computer>Manage>expand Services and Applications>click on Services>Scroll down on the right to find Server>Make sure it is started and set to Auto Start (double-click on it and you can change the startup type).
